National Convention closes with a call for citizen-led change

The inaugural National Convention of the National Dialogue concluded with a resounding call for citizens to take ownership of shaping South Africa’s future.

Delivering the closing address Co-Deputy Chairperson of the Eminent Persons Group, Lindiwe Mazibuko, said the event revealed the extraordinary spirit of South Africans - from young leaders urging boldness, to communities affirming their role in driving change.

Heritage baked into every loaf

When many South Africans look abroad in search of better work opportunities, Nomzamo Steven chose a different path. Drawing on patriotism, sisterhood, and heritage, she kept her ties to South Africa alive through her business, Mzansi Bread.

Though based in Germany for work, Steven is the driving force behind Mzansi Bread, a bakery in Motherwell, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, which she co-runs with her cousin, Zameka Beauty Mqokeli.

Graduates rise with BICSA support

At a time when some young South Africans rely on the R370 social relief grant, one bakery graduate has a different message: “use it as seed money to start something of your own.”

Speaking at the Bakery Incubation Centre of South Africa’s (BICSA) graduation ceremony in Tshwane, 35-year-old graduate Viola Letselebe encouraged her peers to think beyond survival and turn small opportunities into sustainable businesses.
