To create a fruitful economy and a prosperous nation, it is essential that we invest in the skills development of citizens. The right skills empower South Africans to reach their full potential and build a sustainable, resilient economy.

Our nation’s skills development is charted by the National Skills Development Plan which prioritises improving education and training. It sets forth specific targets such as the training of 30 000 artisans annually by 2030. 

Silapha Wellness Programme saves lives

The Minister for Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, has encouraged all South African creatives and athletes to register for free counselling and support through the Silapha Wellness Programme.

The programme was initiated in 2022 to support artists and athletes with critical access to well-being support. 

It provides those in the creative and sporting industries access to a 24/7/365 call centre for counselling and support services.

Umalusi awards accreditation certificates

Umalusi awarded accreditation certificates to 54 successful institutions at an Accreditation Forum and Certificate Award Ceremony recently held in Pretoria.

 The event was organised to award accreditation certificates to 54 institutions (50 independent schools and four private colleges) that met Umalusi’s accreditation criteria to offer qualifications that are registered on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Sub-framework. 

Mdlaka capitalises on child’s play

When Yolanda Mdlaka installed eye-catching jungle gyms for her new pre-school in the Eastern Cape in 2015, she opened the floodgates of enquiring admirers who wished the same for their facilities.

Instead of being the middle person of the enquirers to the supplier, the 38-year-old pounced on a business opportunity to make the climbing frames. And with that, Enzo Jungle Gyms was born.

At the time, Mdlaka worked as a sales administrator for an information technology company in Midrand, Gauteng.

Entrepreneur pays it forward despite personal setback

When inspiration planted hope to Kelebogile Madisa, the founder of Mminakgomo Events and Projects, who wanted to encourage the children at Sandfontein, Rustenburg in the North West to continue giving their all on their school work. 

When Kelebogile Madisa was retrenched from her job in 2018, she decided to start a free tutoring programme in Sandfontein, in Rustenburg, North West.
