The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is encouraging grant recipients to make use of its e-Life Certification system — a simple, digital way to confirm your life status without visiting a local office.
This self-service option is designed to save time, reduce travel costs, and make accessing services more convenient.
Complete your e-Life Certification:
- Start by visiting the SASSA Online Services Portal https://services.sassa.gov.za/portal/r/sassa/sassa/home. This is where you will complete your life certification using a secure and user-friendly system.
- The platform uses electronic Know Your Client (eKYC) technology, which includes biometric verification to confirm your identity safely.
- Once logged in, follow the prompts to complete your e-Life Certification. Make sure your personal details are correct and up to date, as this information is used to verify your eligibility for receiving a social grant.
Life certification is a legal requirement under the Social Assistance Act. It ensures that grants are paid only to beneficiaries who are still eligible and alive.
This process helps protect public funds and ensures that support reaches those who truly need it.
SASSA advises beneficiaries
to complete their life certification once a year. However, if you are specifically requested by SASSA to complete the process, you must do so within the given timeframe, regardless of your grant type or age.
SASSA remains committed to ensuring that the right grant reaches the right person at the right time. Beneficiaries are also encouraged to report any suspected fraud to help protect the system for everyone.
“Beneficiaries who fail to complete life certification as directed may face payment delays or suspension of their grants. In such cases, SASSA may interpret the absence of life certification as an indication that the beneficiary is deceased or not legitimate. To avoid payment disruption, beneficiaries must respond promptly to life certification requests and ensure their information is up to date.”
