I am currently unemployed and was receiving Unemployment Insurance Fund benefits, which have now come to an end. I would like to apply for the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for writing to Vuk’uzenzele, a government newspaper published by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).

Please note that applications for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant can be completed online as follows:

  1.  Access the SRD application platform 

    Visit: https://srd.sassa.gov.za and select Apply Online.

  2. Verify your cellphone number 

    Enter your cellphone number and confirm it using the One-Time Pin (OTP) sent via SMS.

  3. Verify your Identity 

    The e-KYC process will be initiated to verify your facial biometrics, as captured by the Department of Home Affairs.

  4. Provide personal details 

    Capture your full name(s) and South African identity number (ID) exactly as they appear on your ID document.

  5. Submit banking details 

    Banking details can be submitted during the application or at a later stage. Please ensure the account is in your own name and matches your ID number.

  6. Application assessment 

    Applications are assessed monthly in line with SASSA requirements.

  7. Check application status 

    Applicants may track the status of their application on the SRD platform using their ID number or the registered cellphone number.
