Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela, was recently sworn in as the new Minister of the portfolio in Cape Town. During the same ceremony, former KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Dr. Nomusa Dube-Ncube was sworn in as his Deputy Minister. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Tuynhuys in the presence of President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy President Paul Mashatile, and presided-over by the Western Cape Judge President, Nolwazi Mbindla-Boqwana. Minister Manamela and Deputy Minister Dr Dube-Ncube were appointed following the removal of Dr Nobuhle Nkabane from the position of Minister of Higher Education and Training.
Deputy Minister Dube-Ncube was appointed in terms of Section 93(b) of the Constitution, which allows the President to appoint no more than two Deputy Ministers from outside the National Assembly. Minister Manamela had been serving as Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training prior to this appointment, a role he held during the sixth administration. SAnews.gov.za
