How to have your say on the 2026 National Budget

South Africans have been Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana invites South Africans to share ideas ahead of the 2026 Budget Speech.invited to shape the country’s economic direction by submitting suggestions for the 2026 National Budget.

Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana who will table the National Budget on 25 February 2026, has called on members of the public to share ideas that can help government balance economic growth with support for vulnerable communities, at a time of limited financial resources.

The National Treasury says public input is critical as the country grapples with rising debt, pressure on State-Owned Entities (SOEs), and the need for sustained investment in key infrastructure.

What you can comment on

Members of the public are encouraged to submit concise proposals on a wide range of economic issues, including:

  • Government spending priorities
  • Reducing the budget deficit
  • Stabilising the finances of SOEs
  • Investment in energy and water infrastructure
  • Tax policy proposals
  • Debt sustainability
  • Municipal finances
  • Any other economy-related matters
How to submit your Budget tips

Submissions must be no longer than 300 words and should be clear and to the point.

To participate, submit your input directly to the National Treasury website www.treasury.gov.za which has the Budget Tips submission link. 

South Africans are also encouraged to join the conversation online by tagging the National Treasury on social media using the hashtags #TipsForMinFin and #Budget2026:

Don’t miss the deadline.

The closing date for submissions is 16 February 2026.

The National Treasury added that all contributions will be considered as part of the process leading up to the 2026 Budget Speech.
