Hope for unemployed graduates

Getting a university degree is no guarantee that a person will move straight into a job. Instead, it could prove the most difficult time for a new graduate. So government set up the Unemployed Graduate Initiative.

 Find jobs
This intiative helps jobless graduates find jobs or start their own businesses.  The project was launched jointly with the Umsobomvu Youth Fund last month.  As part of the project the government makes a list of unemployed graduates which is forwarded to the Umsobomvu.

 Nokhanya Booi is an elderly grandmother who does not know her age. But she is old enough to have surprised her teenage grandchildren when she started teaching them about sex related matters. They found it very strange that their 'makhulu' (grandmother in isiXhosa), would know about HIV and Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases, and the dangers of unprotected sex.

Zakumi represents the people, land and spirit of South Africa and Africa. As a mascot, Zakumi will be an ambassador for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. 
 
A mascot is a person, animal, or object believed to bring good luck. It is like a representative for an organisation or a sports team. The first mascot used for a FIFA World Cup, was a lion called World Cup Willie. It was introduced in 1966 when England hosted the World Cup. Since then every World Cup has had its own special mascot.
