Skin problem leads to success for KZN teen

Written by Nonkululeko Mathebula

Snikiwe Xaba’s acne problem gave birth to the start of a flourishing skin care range known as Natural Me.

For a long time the 16-year old’s confidence levels hit rock bottom due to her skin condition.

“Growing up I had horrible skin and that just killed my self-confidence. I couldn’t even take pictures with my friends let alone walk around in the streets without feeling like I have an egg on my face.

“I couldn’t afford expensive skin products so I took the matters into my own hands and did extensive research about natural skin products.”

During her research she came across ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Marula oil which were said to be very helpful in fighting skin related conditions.

“This is when the idea of starting my own skin care range came to mind,” said Xaba.

The buddying entrepreneur also pitched her idea to several skin care companies but was rejected by most of them owing to her age.

This did not deter Xaba from her goal.

She eventually got feedback from a company based in Durban and this is when her dream came true and started the process of production.

Today Xaba from Port Shepstone in KwaZulu-Natal, produces a face wash, toner, day and a night cream. The products are available through the company priced at R80 to R90 a bottle.

Natural Me helps with pimples, dark marks, uneven skin tone, oily skin, dehydrated and acne prone skin. All the products are manufactured in a South African Bureau of Standard approved facility.

Xaba’s vision is to produce a skin care range that is not only great for the skin but also affordable.

Currently in Grade 11, Xaba who is studying at Sikanisweni High School said once she has matriculated she would like to study Law and continue running her business on the side.

“Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
